No, the title is not a typo. It's a (poor) pun. This is a short blogpost about Mottled and Scarce Umber moths, caught by Matt Casey just round the corner from my house in New Costessey, and kindly shared with me. Neither are rare: Scarce has been found in just half of Norfolk's recording squares, and Mottled in just over half. Scarce is the subdued of the pair, and Mottled remarkably variable in pattern and size. Here are some Mottleds.

And here is a Scarce. Yes, the right wing is damaged, unfortunately.
