19 May 2018  Limelight

One of my headiest moments of each year comes when I open the moth trap, turn an egg tray and discover the world's biggest bogey underneath. At least, that's what my daughter calls the Lime Hawk-moth. We only receive a few each year, and each one is treasured. Not for nothing does it adorn my nose on my Twitter etc profile picture. This year's first came this week. And we celebrated it. What a beauty. Art Deco in winged invertebrate form. Stunner. Sumptuous critter. Joy to behold.

Even the local arch-birder got in on the act. I love spreading the good word...
