On Saturday morning I was granted a half-day pass for good behaviour. I 'spent' it largely with Sheringham's confiding male Black Redstart. A bird so rare, says the Eastern Daily Press, that is has drawn birdwatchers from all over the country to see it...
Hyperbolic journalism aside, this is one smart bird. It took an hour to locate, and was very fidgety, but patience, careful positioning and a muddy tummy enabled me to take some pleasing images.
