9 January 2021 Ice dragons

Right parky out this morning - the first crystal-clear, ice-cold dawn of the year. There be ice dragons in Norwich!

Having narrowly missed a Whooper Swan that flew northwest from Will Soar's house and must have come within 100m of mine, I headed out for a spot of neighbourhood exercise, walking along the River Are in Bowthorpe in search of ice-coloured birds. It staggers me that I can see two Great Egrets (plus Little Egrets and Cetti's Warblers) within a few minutes cycle of the front door. All three species would have been unthinkable when I was born. And given that both longlegs were BB rarities when I first saw them (in 1993 and 1989 respectively), I don't think I'll ever lose the excitement of watching them.
