4 Nov 2018 Gong!

I wrote recently about the importance of recognition - through awards programmes - for authors. The prompt was that my travel book from earlier this year, 52 European Wildlife Weekends, had been shortlisted for Best Guidebook in the UK Travel Media Awards. Sadly, on the shortlist it stayed. So I am particularly delighted (chuffed, stoked, elated) to announce that - at tonight's British Guild of Travel Writers Awards Dinner at The Savoy - the same book won the Adele Evans Award for Best Guidebook! Somewhat sadly I was not around to collect the award. I'm not normally one to turn down a free dinner, even if it means dressing up in glad rags, but I am in Colombia at present - on a press trip organised by ProColombia (the national tourist board) and BirdLife International. Instead I 'attended' via video link... (I'll be writing about the Colombia trip for The Telegraph, Bird Watching and Neotropical Birding magazines, and hopefully one or two others. More on this blog in due course!)
