18 May 2020 Belt, no braces

The weather was too good yesterday to resist the temptation to venture beyond the neighbourhood. Only short drive to a local heathland, but still it felt like liberation. How things change. A handful of others had had the same idea, but we made sure to respect distances. The rewards flowed. We had four Large Red-belted Clearwing temporarily confined in plastic, having earlier netted one (but inadvertently allowed it to escape) and with me seeing one other that eluded the net (and Mark seeing several others). So an absolute minimum of four of these early-flying clearwings, very probably five, and quite possibly somewhere nearer ten. Wonderful stuff for a critter I only properly got to grips with on my 2019 birthday.
